At the Annual General Meeting of the Men's FOCUS Group we had a long discussion about the future of the meeting. The numbers have been in decline over recent years and the men who are new to the church have not taken up the offer to come and meet. We have been able to continue with the support of some men from other churches in the circuit for which we are grateful. During this year we have needed to cancel two of our meetings because of low attendance. In the light of this we agreed the time was right that the FOCUS Group should cease to meet.
The Group has been meeting for about twenty years, set by Armor Blair with Rev Fred Turner as President and our Minister as Chairman. In those early days twenty to thirty men came together for Fellowship and shared a meal together, we were able to invite a wide range of speakers. We hope that those who attended the meetings through those years enjoyed and benefited from the fellowship.
Maybe in the future a new group for men will be formed which meets the needs of fellowship for men today. Sadly at the moment there seems to be little interest in the life of churches generally for men to meet, while the ladies meetings continue to be well supported. Perhaps some new ideas will be found in time which will generate men's interest again in coming together for Christian Fellowship. The door is always open for new ideas.
