Diamond Wedding
On 5th March, two stalwarts of the Lunch Club and Blandford Methodist Church, Margaret & Alan Dymond, celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary. Sixty years of wedded bliss. As a surprise the mayor, Councillor Hugo Mieville, came to Lunch Club and presented Alan & Margaret with a card and a lovely bouquet of flowers. His comment
was, ‘It’s not every day you meet people named Dymond, celebrating their diamond
wedding anniversary’.
Gifts and cards from family, friends, church family and lunch club members had already been open, and a delicious meal was enjoyed on the day itself. We continue to wish them all the very best for their future and many more happy years to come.
Blandford Expo
Saturday 14th March, and Blandford Forum Town Council opened the newly refurbished Corn Exchange for a Town Expo. Blandford Methodist Church’s stall was placed between the Community Fridge and Dorset Fostering, whilst opposite was the Parish Church and the new Riverside Church.
All those gathered were exhibiting to the folk of Blandford what voluntary and recreational activities they could be involved in or turn to in case of need. It proved to be a great opportunity to chat to those who visited, offer them a handout containing all our Easter services and just generally chatting about the church and what happens in our building throughout the week.
New Shawl
One of our members is a dab hand at knitting and crocheting. For the arrival of her first great grandchild, she decided to knit a shawl. What a work of art it turned out to be. Using two ply wool, numerous stitches and an intricate pattern, the finished product is a masterpiece to behold. This is one lucky baby.
60's Afternoon
A fantastic 60’s afternoon was held on Saturday 21st March. Two of those gathered had really entered into the spirit of the occasion by dressing up in 60’s gear. Alan compiled a few 60’s themed quizzes, there was ‘guess that tune’, played by Angela, Peter Aston entertained with a 60’s singalong and there was even a twisting competition won by Kathy, who was amazing. The afternoon was rounded off with a 60’s favourite ‘chicken and chips in a basket’, followed by Viennetta (Arctic Roll is no longer available). A good
time was had by all.
