Ready, Steady, Go

I am sure many of you will have heard of the book 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' by Michael Rosen. Well on Sunday afternoon eight cars of intrepid explorers took to the highways and bye ways of Dorset and ventured on a Car Treasure Hunt.

Unfortunately, yours truly after arriving at the start point using satnav then proceeded to get totally lost but did spend a pleasant hour and half driving around the countryside near Woodlands Methodist Church who hosted and organized the event.

Not to be deterred the other vehicles completed the course in the allotted time and whilst on their travels they not only answered the cryptic clues set by Morgan and Ann but they collected a variety of objects that had also been requested to have a chance of winning the prize.

I am not sure that marital harmony was achieved but all seemed to have had a fun if not a frustrating time. One particular clue had a few people stumped. 'Perhaps Mr Davidson lived here. After several guesses all incorrect the answer of 'Harley' was revealed. Very annoying. The winning team scored twenty-four points and were well rewarded for their endeavors.

The weary contestants were then treated to a well-deserved cup of tea and a choice of a variety of scrumptious cakes which were very well received.

With refreshments over and the clearing away complete we set off for Knowlton Church where we rendezvoused with members of the local Anglican churches for an open-air service.

What a beautiful setting on a lovely summers evening to sing our praises to God accompanied by an excellent troupe of musicians, hear readings from God's word, be encouraged by Rev Nick Wood's sermon who told us to look to look to the words of Psalm 139 and Colossians 3 when we feel frayed and afraid.

For the prayers of intercession, the forty-nine people gathered were each given a piece of string with instructions to tie knots in the string to represent someone or a situation they wanted to pray for. The final prayer saw each of the individual strings tied together.

A perfect ending to a perfect day. Joyce Wild
