On 24th February, after the morning service led by Brian Sturtridge and assisted by his wife Pam, 40 people from the church congregation and the Lunch Club sat down together in the hall for Sunday lunch at beautifully decorated tables. The meal began with the singing of the grace before Alan, Barry & John (our three bow-tied gentlemen) waited upon each table. The first course was a choice of soup, which went down extremely well with the diners. A cheese and ham ploughman's lunch followed, served with lovely fresh bread and loads of butter. For dessert there was an amazing array of delicious homemade puddings, including raspberry frangipane, fresh cream trifle, fruit meringues, passion fruit cheesecake, fruit salad and chocolate cake. Folks didn't need a lot of encouragement to return for second helpings. The meal was completed with a cup of tea or coffee and a box of chocolates for each person. When it came to the tidying up, that old saying 'many hands make light work' was certainly true and the camaraderie and Christian Fellowship was superb. As Methodists we love to eat and chat. This was most definitely one of those occasions when both were in plentiful supply. We look forward to the next Sunday lunch scheduled for 14th April.
